Doves – envoys of peace

The dress of the American singer Lady Gaga who performed on January 20 at the inauguration of the 46th US president Joe Biden so impressed spectators that on the network discussions round the image of the pop star do not abate.

The brightest detail of the costume – a golden brooch in the form of a dove with open wings, symbolising peace and hope became a subject of discussions. Having inspired by a bright message of an emblem, followers try to create the copies of golden doves by hands.

From ancient times in the countries of the East doves were considered as sacred birds and harbingers of Gods. In its beak the dove carried water to Mohammed for ablution. It is also mentioned that Allah charged pair of doves to construct a nest over the entrance to the Cave of Thawr where the prophet and his companion Abu Bakr disappeared from persecutors.

According to one of the legends, the dove received a gift of human speech from Allah. And once, having learnt about future hunger, the bird warned people about it, for what Allah has deprived it of its gift to speak.

In Turkmenistan the dove is held in esteem especially. The beauty of these birds was sung by many classics of Turkmen literature. The white dove decorates an emblem of the year «Turkmenistan – home of peace and trust».

The Flood described in the Book of Genesis, tells about a dove was released by Noah after the flood in order to find land. “And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth”.

In Persia dove towers where flied several thousands of doves, were erected. And birds were bred for the sake of dung. It was applied as fertilizer, used by potassium manufacture, as gunpowder component, and also for pickles and jerking of meat products. In Iran two earliest pigeon towers which can be met in imperial gardens of Isfahan have remained.

Many years ago in Turkmenistan elite breed of doves «agaran» was developed. So the camel dairy cream which colour is characteristic for natural colouring of these birds is called. Turkmen dove breeders continue traditions of cultivation of magnificent birds, and to admire unique flight of agarans is possible in cities of the country and in the Turkmen state circus.
