CIS leaders familiarize themselves with archive files related to the history of WWII

At an informal meeting of CIS leaders in St. Petersburg, where President Berdimuhamedov also arrived, Putin presented archive files related to the outbreak of World War II.

“We made decisions related to the events dedicated to the end of the Great Patriotic War,” the Russian President said opening the meeting.

He emphasized that for all of us “this is a special date, because our ancestors, our fathers, our grandfathers put on the altar of our Fatherland, of our common Fatherland those days, a lot. Many of them gave their lives. In fact, every family in the former Soviet Union was somehow affected by what happened to the whole world and to our country.”

Citing the reliable historical records, Putin spoke about the reasons and preconditions of the bloody war and also commented on the resolution the EU parliament on September 19, 2019 “On the Importance of Preserving Historical Memory for the Future of Europe”.

High-level guests viewed the historical documentary exhibition called “1939. The beginning of World War II” at the Boris Yeltsin Library.

Let us recall, during the summit of the CIS heads of state held in Ashgabat in October 2019, Turkmen leader suggested arranging the festive events to celebrate the the Victory Day in 2020 in all countries of the Commonwealth and emphasized that Turkmenistan was ready to provide support and assistance in implementing the main events.

Earlier, ORIENT informed that Turkmenistan joined the military-patriotic action “A handful of memory” as part of events on celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.
