China has developed a data bank on natural resources in Central Asia

China has created the world’s first and only geology and mineral resources big data system on Central Asia, says the official website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Big data system is the fruit of a 20-year-effort of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, contains geological, geochemical, geophysical data and information about the mineral wealth of China and seven other countries – Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia and Mongolia.

14 terabytes of information, 16,834 maps of natural resources and a huge stock of relevant data will serve as a key tool for exploration in countries along the new Silk Road, according to the Academy of Sciences.

On the basis of this data Bank, the Xinjiang Mineral Resources Research Center has developed several software systems, including the Central Asia geology big-data base management and sharing platform, the natural resources network information system, and the remote sensing weak information identification.
