China aims to actively contribute to the peace process in Afghanistan

At the 74th UN General Assembly session on Wednesday, a plenary meeting was held to discuss the Afghan problem.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, Zhang Jun, the PRC Permanent Representative to the UN, outlined at a meeting the position of the Chinese party on this issue, and spoke about China’s contribution to promoting the peace process in Afghanistan, its increased ability to contribute to security and socio-economic development in this country.

According to Zhang Jun, ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan concerns the interests of the Chinese people, and is also related to security, stability, development and prosperity throughout the region.

The international community should continue to provide support and assistance to Afghanistan. The Chinese party supports promoting an inclusive and Afghan-led peace process, and calls upon the United States and the Taliban to continue negotiations.

China will continue to actively contribute to the peace process in Afghanistan and assist the Afghan people in implementing inclusive reconciliation through the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group, a dialogue between the Foreign Ministers of China, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and consultations between China, the United States, Russia and Pakistan on the Afghan issue, Zhang Jun said.

He also called upon all parties involved in the Afghan conflict, including the Taliban, to make use of the historic opportunity and start intra-Afghanistan negotiations in order to agree on a political framework acceptable to all parties as soon as possible.
