Central Asian countries approved water limits for the period of active growth and development of plants (the growing season) in 2019. The relevant agreement was reached by representatives of relevant departments at the 76th meeting of the Interstate Coordination Water Management Committee (ICWC) held in the Uzbek capital.
The Turkmen delegation was headed by the head of the water use department of the State Committee for Water Resources, Baygeldi Bayidzhanov.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to establish restrictions for states in the field of water consumption, as well as the order of operation of the reservoir system in the Syrdarya and Amudarya basins for 2019.
For Central Asian countries, addressing the issue of efficient water use is a priority for the near future. Turkmenistan is particularly active in this.
The country initiated the development of a UN water strategy, as well as the creation of a special UN Program for the Aral.
At the 76th meeting of the ICWC, the issue of the participation of the Scientific Information Center of the Commission and the water associations of the Amudarya and Syrdarya basins in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, which will be held in Ashgabat on May 7-8 this year, was also considered. The agenda will include the issue of developing an Action Program to assist the countries of the Aral Sea Basin “ASBP-4”.
