The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation was signed on the margins of the international conference “The Role of Water Diplomacy in Achieving Sustainable Development of Central Asia” held in Ashgabat by the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan and the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia.
The document reflects the intention of the parties to make joint efforts to strengthen cooperation in the field of sustainable water resources management and aims to coordinate and support mutual efforts.
The forum also discussed priority areas for water diplomacy in Central Asia – regional cooperation and joint management of transboundary water bodies.
Foreign experts spoke at the forum – Karolina Milou, Head of the Regional Program of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Esen Zhusumatov, Deputy Head of the Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dinara Ziganshina, Deputy Director of SIC ICWC, Sagit Ibatullin, Professor, Director of the International Training Center for Dam Safety, as well as representatives of the UN Funds and Programs and other organizations.
They noted the efforts of countries in the field of water management. According to experts, the countries of the region have managed to create national systems for managing the environment and water. An even greater success is expected from the reforms and agreements concluded in this area.
