Today, President Berdimuhamedov organized a government meeting to discuss the preparations for the major sports events to be held in Turkmenistan, such as the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally, the Weightlifting World Championship and mass the events on occasion of the World Bicycle Day.
The representatives of the international organizations, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the regional administrations, the heads of public and sports organizations among others attended the meeting.
Minister of Internal Affairs I. Mullikov reported on the preparations for the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally, including the signing of the Agreement and the results of negotiations with “Africa Eco Race” Company, involved as a co-organizer of the rally. As for the national team of Turkmenistan, special courses have been introduced for drivers, navigators and technical personnel on the basis of the Motor Sport Center under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
On May 8, the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally project was presented to the International Automobile Federation, and then, on May 16, to the professional riders and the media during the presentation in Moscow.
Deputy Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Motor Sports Federation G.Agamyradov reported on the preparations for the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally.
Minister of Sports and Youth Policy D.Gulgeldiev reported on the organization of the Weightlifting World Championship that will be held this autumn, from October 28 to November 10, in Ashgabat. The tournament will be qualifying: the winners of the Championship will gain the right to participate in the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
Representatives of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) have already visited the Turkmen capital and evaluated the site of the championship in the Olympic Village in Ashgabat.
Vice-premier P.Agamyradov, as being in charge with sports, reported on organizing the events scheduled for June 3 that the United Nations Organization declared as the World Bicycle Day on the initiative of Turkmenistan. On occasion of the new holiday on June 3, various competitions, cycling ride and other events will be held in the capital.
The report of the Vice-premier, Foreign Minister R.Meredov was also dedicated to the World Bicycle Day that will be celebrated this year for the first time. The proposals on organizing thematic events in Turkmenistan were considered.
In particular, in 2019, the holding an International conference on the cycling movement and its significance for the municipal transport infrastructure under the aegis of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) of UNESCO and United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) was proposed.
Berdimuhamedov approved these proposals and gave the relevant instructions on each item on the agenda of the meeting. Special instructions on holding in the country on June 3 the large-scale environmental event – the car free day were given.
Such days were already held in Ashgabat, when traffic in the Turkmen capital from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., except public transport, were limited. Speaking about the ecological significance of such actions, the President also instructed on observance of environmental standards to ensure the high organizational level of the environmental safety of racing cars during the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally.
Berdimuhamedov instructed to attract the local population, especially youth and teenage, to practice bicycle racing and to promote this sport, for example, through the organization of competitions, the results of which will be summed up every year on the World Bicycle Day.
Viatcheslav Ekimov, President of the Russian Cycling Federation, was invited to take part in the enlarged government meeting on the development of sports. Speaking at the meeting, well-known Russian former professional racing cyclist noted Turkmenistan’s great potential for international training and cycling competitions, including highways running. This is facilitated not only by the climate of Turkmenistan, which allows cycling in the open air almost all the year round, but also the perfect quality of the highways in the country.
He mentioned that in winter, one of the best professional cycling teams of the world “Katyusha”, whose founder and trustee is the President of “ARETI” Company Igor Makarov, periodically visits Turkmenistan for the preparation for major international tournaments.
According to Yekimov, the wonderful indoor cycle track, built in the Olympic Village in Ashgabat deserves the highest assessment. Therefore, he cited the opinion of experts from the International Cycling Union on the possibility of holding international high-level cycling tournaments in the Turkmen capital, for example, the Cycling World Championship, saying that this idea can be realized in 2019 already.
President Berdimuhamedov instructed sports officials and other heads of appropriate state bodies to ensure the medical care of athletes, providing them with high-quality nutrition and the efficient doping control at the upcoming Weightlifting World Championship in Ashgabat.
As for the international rally, the head of state also instructed the Vice-premier B.Abdiyeva to ensure the information and cultural support of the competitions.
