The Turkmen-Uzbek summit was held today in Tashkent, in the residence of Kuksara. Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the topics of political interaction, the economic state of bilateral relations and their humanitarian aspect.
It was noted that recent years have become without exaggeration breakthroughs in the centuries-old history of Uzbek-Turkmen relations. This is reflected in a significant increase in mutual trade, increasing industrial cooperation, and intensified cross-border dialogue.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, the export of Turkmen products to Uzbekistan in January-September 2019 increased by 196% compared to the same period last year, and the import of Uzbek goods into the country increased by 158%.
The presidents examined the current trade and economic opportunities of the two countries from the point of view of strengthening the role of science, innovation, information technologies that determine the future of both countries, their production potential, both in the fuel and energy sector or in the textile industry, the transport sector, and in the industry traditional for Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan cotton growing, agriculture in general.
Today, the ceremony of conferring the title of Honorary Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Turkmen leader took place at the Kuksaroy residence.
The talks between Berdimuhamedov and Mirziyoyev were held on the eve of the consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia in Tashkent.
