Azerbaijan marks a high flow of tourists from Turkmenistan

As the AzerNews informs, in January-June 2019, 1.4 million foreign tourists visited the country, which was a growth by 86,000 tourists or 6.5 per cent compared with the same period of 2018.

More than half of the tourists visiting Azerbaijan accounted for Russia and Georgia. In particular, the tourist flow from Russia made up 414,000 people (increase of 2.6 per cent), and from Georgia – to 342,800 people (increase of 22.8 per cent). The tourist flow from Turkey to Azerbaijan in the first half of the year reached 147,700 people (increase of 3.7 per cent).

It is particularly notable that the number of tourists from Asian countries increased by 38 per cent, that is over 54 000 tourists. By regions Turkmenistan has the highest index of growth – by 85% (21 thousand tourists).

To compare with: the number of tourists from India to Azerbaijan was 27 thousand people (growth by 0, 2%), from Pakistan – 19 thousand people (by 24, 4%), from Kazakhstan – 20 thousand people (by 15, 1%).

Simplification of visa system plays an important role in development of tourism in Azerbaijan. Currently, citizens of a number of countries get visas right at the Azerbaijani airports, while other tourists can visit the country by getting online tourist visas, as the AzerNews points out.
