Woman-football player Ellen Fokkema will become a player of the men’s club “VV Foarut” from the fourth division of the Netherlands as is informed on the website of the Royal Dutch Football Association of the Netherlands (KNVB).
In the press-service of the association they stated that the contract of the 19-year-old sportswoman with “VV Foarut” was concluded as pilot one. It is noted that the decision will help equality development in football.
Fokkema told that she has been playing in the team since she was five and is glad for the decision of the football association. «My teammates also reacted enthusiastically that I can stay with them. I can’t say how it will go, but I am very happy that I can participate in this pilot”, – she noted.
At the moment in the Netherlands men and women are allowed to play in the same team up to the age of 19 and after it, men join the men’s clubs to play at the level of category A and women can play in leagues of category B.
