In some cases, doctors point out, dark chocolate protects against Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The product contains flavonoids (antioxidants), which can increase blood flow to the brain – more oxygen enters the brain, thus reducing the amount of toxins. In addition, a small amount of treats every day improves attention and memory.
The sweet product reduces the risk of hypertension: experts say that it lowers blood pressure, the substances it contains thin the blood and relax the blood vessels. The flavonoids in dark chocolate increase the level of “good” cholesterol, which in turn eliminates the “bad” cholesterol. Moreover, the treat prevents blood clots and strokes.
According to doctors, chocolate has anti-inflammatory properties, reduces the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. It protects the lungs, liver and brain from various inflammations. The product, experts say, also helps the body fight free radicals that cause damage to DNA cells.
Doctors call dark chocolate the healthiest of all: the higher the cocoa content, the better. According to experts, the treat should be low in sugar. A safe daily serving, doctors say, is 20-30 grams.
