Kazakhstan has established a new holiday – Abay Day. It will be celebrated on August 10, reports the press service of the KR government. The country’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin signed the Resolution on making an addition to the government Resolution “On adoption of the list of holiday dates in the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
This year marks the 175th anniversary of the famous poet and educator. Last December, the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) decided to declare 2020 as the Year of Abay Kunanbayev.
At the beginning of the year, a single logo was developed to the anniversary celebration of Abay. In honor of the anniversary in 2020, more than 500 events were to be held, most of which were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
