Turkmenistan can become the host country of the 2020 Sambo World championships. This issue was discussed during the negotiations of the Minister of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan Dayanch Gulgeldiyev with the President of the International Sambo Federation Vasily Shestakov.
As part of the visit to Moscow, the head of the Ministry of Sports of Turkmenistan also met with his Russian colleague Pavel Kolobkov and discussed a number of issues to enhance cooperation in the sports.
The parties agreed to prepare an Action Plan within the framework of the Agreement on cooperation in the sports, which was signed by the governments of the two countries in the Turkmen capital in the autumn of 2017.
As to the Turkmen-Russian cooperation in sports, Gulgeldiyev emphasized that at present time, as part of preparation to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Russian specialists have been involved to work in Turkmenistan. In particular, Ramazan Irbaihanov, freestyle wrestling coach, and Mahty Makkayev, weightlifting coach.
During the talks, the Minister of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan focused on organizing visits of specialists in the field of sports medicine and psychology, joint training sessions, as well as on cooperation to develop winter sports in Turkmenistan, and establishing contacts between specialized higher educational facilities of the two countries.
In addition, the parties agreed to strengthen sports cooperation under the Commonwealth of Independent States. Kolobkov voiced plans to hold the First CIS Sports Games in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, next year.
