Turkmenbashi International Port is steadily holding one of the leading positions in cargo and passenger traffic with the Baku international sea trade port.
The statistical data for the H1 2018, reported by the Azerbaijani media with reference to the press service of the Baku international sea trade port, testifies to that.
Thus, in January-June 2018, 19,965 passengers used the services of the Baku port, of which 16,526 passengers or 82.8% of the total passenger traffic travelled to Turkmenistan, and 3,439 passengers or 17.2% – to Kazakhstan. Passenger transportation in both directions increased by 37 %.
Alyat ferry terminal of the Baku port transshipped 21960 units of rail cars. At the same time, 9,409 rail cars or 42.8% were sent on the Baku-Turkmenbashi-Baku route.
During the first half of 2018, the Baku port has shipped 9,512 large-capacity vehicles. Of these, 5,353 vehicles or 56.3% were delivered to/from Turkmenbashi.
During the six-month period, the port handled 2 million tons of cargo, 86% of which was for transit.
The modernized International Port in Turkmenbashi and the new Port trade complex in Alyat were commissioned in May this year. Establishment of dynamic transport interaction between the two Caspian harbors located on the international route Asia-Europe is one of the tasks on the agenda of Turkmen-Azerbaijani cooperation.
