Tokyo hosted 11th intellectual dialogue “Central Asia + Japan”. The symposium was attended by representatives of the academic community, think tanks and foreign ministries of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as experts on Central Asia from various government organizations and higher education institutions of Japan.
The regular expert meeting was devoted to the topic of “«Regional Cooperation in Central Asia and Strategic Views on Regional Security.”
As reported in the final press release of the Japanese foreign ministry, the delegates of each of the Central Asian made presentations on the current state of regional cooperation.
Special attention was also paid to the issues of international importance – this is current situation in Afghanistan, which of top urgency for the region, as well as the situation in the Middle East.
The presentation part of the event ended with an exchange of views on trends and prospects for further cooperation between Central Asia and Japan.
Tokyo or Intellectual dialogue is one of the five areas of the “Central Asia + Japan” format launched in 2004. Other areas of activity in this format include political dialogue, intra-regional cooperation, business dialogue, cultural and humanitarian dialogue.
