Mini-Dublin group meeting held in Ashgabat

The Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia hosted in Ashgabat the regular meeting of mini-Dublin group, an informal coordination group of like-minded countries on fight against illicit drugs.

The meeting was attended by law enforcement officers of Turkmenistan, representatives of foreign embassies and missions of international organizations, accredited to Ashgabat.

Turkmen side provided information on the country’s political initiatives to combat illegal drugs and drug trafficking.

Then there was an exchange of information on such activities in the countries represented at the meeting, in order to develop more rational approaches to this issue.

In Turkmenistan, the fight against the illegal spread of narcotic and psychotropic substances is one of the most important vectors of domestic and foreign policy. This social evil in the country is opposed at the interdepartmental level. Law enforcement agencies regularly carry out special operations with the subsequent public campaign on destruction of the confiscated drugs. Medical institutions, public organizations, in turn, are involved in the relevant awareness activities. A parallel contribution to the overall efforts is made by the country’s policy to promote physical culture and sports.
