From May 27 to June 17, 13 members of the national team of Turkmenistan (9 guys and 4 girls), accompanied by three mentors – head coach Meretguly Sahetmuradov, Umurbek Bazarbayev and master of sports of international class Jafar Topchu are in the Turkish city of Antalya.
Among the athletes are Rejepbay Rejepov, Dianch Ashirov, Izzat Meredov, Maksat Meredov, Dovletmurat Sapargeldiev, Pirguly Pirgulyev, Bunyat Rashidov, Khidyrberdi Yagmyrov, Gaygysiz Toryaev, Polina Gurieva, Kristina Shermetova, Yulduz Dzhumabaeva and Byagul Berdieva.
These are not the first foreign gatherings of Turkmen weightlifters. In the spring, they traveled to Shymkent and Tashkent, after which they conducted a home training in the Olympic town of Ashgabat.
The final composition of the team of Turkmenistan, which will perform at the world championship in Ashgabat in November this year, has not yet been formed.
According to the representatives of the National Federation of the country for this sport, on July 4-5, a meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Weightlifting Federation will be held in Tashkent, where an official decision will be made to increase the number of weight categories of athletes. After all, at the World Championships in Ashgabat, weightlifters will compete for the first time not in eight, but in 10 weight categories. Therefore, it is planned to include young athletes who showed good results in the championship of Turkmenistan in January this year in the national team.
And on July 6, the International Weightlifting Federation Congress will be held, where the Executive Committee’s decision will be announced, along with the presentation of the upcoming weightlifting competitions.
