Sensational triumph was delivered by a boxer from Turkmenistan Yakub Meredov at the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup in Astana, the official website of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) writes.
On the second competition day, Turkmen athlete Yakub Meredov (56 kg) made a major sensation, defeating the representative of the “host” country – veteran champion Berik Abdrakhmanov.
On the first day, Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Berik Abdrakhmanov held a hard bout with the Kevin Montano from USA and defeated him finally.
However, in the second bout fortune was on the side of the silver champion of the Islamic Solidarity Games, Turkmenistan’s Yakub Meredov, who landed tough punches and contest ended still in the first round.
Tough bout was performed by another boxer from Turkmenistan. Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament winner Hursand Imankuliyev (60 kg), getting at worthy grips, finally lost with 2-3 to the champion of the Olympic games Rio 2016 Charly Suarez from Philippine.
VI International Boxing Tournament “Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup” is held from 5 to 11 June. This year tournament brought together the 170 boxers from 15 countries – Belarus, India, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, China, Philippines, Russia, Sweden, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, USA, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
This championship is considered one of the jumps to another larger event – the Asian Games in the Indonesian Jakarta, to be held from 18 August to 2 September 2018.
Turkmenistan’s squad in Astana includes multi-winners of international events – Zarip Jumayev (52 kg), Muhammad Berdibayev (64 kg), Timur Tadjimov (69 kg), Nursahat Pazzyyev (75 kg).
