Turkmenistan to propose the United Nations to declare an International day of bicycle

Turkmenistan intends to propel at the United Nations the idea on announcing an International Bicycle Day.

“It seems strange, this most popular, economical and affordable mode of transport, and very important for health, has never been in attention.  And we decided to offer such a resolution,”  said in a recent interview to the UN News center Permanent representative of Turkmenistan to this organization Aksoltan Atayeva.

The idea of declaring an International Bicycle Day will be a continuation of the efforts undertaken within the framework of the world’s largest organization in the field of sustainable transport, sports and interconnection.

As noted by Atayeva, 12 resolutions, touching upon various sectors, were approved by the General Assembly at the initiative of the Turkmen side. In the community of nations, Turkmenistan also prioritizes such issues as peace, security, social and economic sphere, development, energy and environment.

Recall that at the end of February a major sport event “Amul-Khazar 2018” was inaugurated in Lebap province and part of this campaign is a bicycle marathon on the route.

Last year, the days without motor transport were held twice throughout the country, during which movement was permitted on bicycles.
