The 13th meeting of the Turkmen-Iranian intergovernmental commission for consular, border and customs issues was on opened on Monday, March 12th in the building of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

Under the chairmanship of the deputy foreign ministers of the two states, the leaders and representatives of relevant departments and law enforcement agencies discussed the implementation of the agreements reached at the last meeting and discussed prospects for future cooperation.

During the discussions, the parties paid attention to the issue of information exchange between authorized bodies for combating smuggling and illicit trafficking in narcotic substances.

Also at the meeting it was stressed that the coordination of customs issues directly affects the volume of exports between countries. In this regard, the delegates noted the need to further improve the legislative framework, which is the guarantor of stable economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran.

In 2017 the trade turnover between the countries was fixed at the level of $ 1 billion. During the 14th specialized exhibition of Iranian products in Ashgabat, the guests of the Turkmen capital underlined that there is a real potential to increase this figure. Harmonization of customs issues is one of the keys to intensifying the growth of mutually beneficial trade turnover between neighbors.
