The Presidents of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation over telephone conversation today discussed the main issues of interstate cooperation, the information program “Vatan” of Turkmen TV reported. Possibilities of partnership in trade and economic and humanitarian spheres, in sports and tourism as well as regional cooperation were considered.
In the context of the exchange of views on international policy at regional and global levels, the importance of the Security Council’s recent adoption of the Resolution extending the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan was underlined. By adopting the document, members of the UN Security Council expressed their support for regional projects to foster Afghanistan’s development, including the construction of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India gas pipeline, laying international power and fiber-optic lines from Turkmenistan via Afghanistan to Pakistan as well as the railway from the Turkmen city of Kerki to the Afghan city of Akina.
The Turkmen leader expressed hope that on March 18, the citizens of the Russian Federation will vote in the presidential elections, having made the correct decision.
Berdimuhamedov also invited Putin to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan.
